Pimicikamak Wellness Centre (1Just City)
(formerly St Matthew's Maryland Community Ministry)
Members of St Mary Anglican work with and support the inner-city community ministry of 1Just City's Pimicikamak Wellness Center.
We are one of five parishes providing ongoing active support to the West End Drop In of 1Just City through the St. Matthews Maryland Anglican Consortium (Diocese of Rupert’s Land) as well as several United Churches in Winnipeg. These relationships draw on the shared ministry of St. Matthew's Anglican Church and the former Maryland United Church that shared the building for many years. Volunteers from St. Mary who would enjoy meeting our friends in the Pimicikamak Center are welcome to sign up for various volunteer positions using the link https://signup.com/go/FBHpcpx The areas requiring volunteers are hospitality, a friend, food bank, community barbecues etc. St. Mary supports the annual fundraiser for the Drop-In, the Urban Retreats Garden Tour. Next year's tour will be held June 21, 2025, featuring gardens of Deer Lodge area. We have decided to place a greater emphasis on providing hot meals in this space, an opportunity to bring people together in person to share a meal and build belonging. We have expanded our weekly Food Bank in partnership with Harvest Manitoba, for guests who need groceries. What this means for you is that we will no longer have a use for the same non-perishable food donations which we have relied on you for in the past. However there are still many items that we do have ongoing need for, and we know that many in your congregations will be happy to respond to these needs. With that in mind, please see the following list of items we would love your support in receiving:items: ● Ground coffee ● Coffee whitener ● Sugar/sweetener ● Flour ● Cooking Oil ● Bottled Water ● Juice/powder (ie.Lemonade, Ice Tea,Kool-Aid…) ● Napkins ● Ziploc bags (all sizes) ● Plastic Wrap ● Aluminum Foil ● Parchment Paper ● Brown paper bags ● Powder-free vinyl gloves ● Socks ● Underwear ● Menstrual Products ● Soap ● Shampoo ● Toothpaste and toothbrushes ● Razors for shaving Donations collected from parishioners for the Emergency Food Cupboard are regularly delivered to the Drop In. Learn more about the 1Just City West End Drop-in on their website and contact them directly to volunteer and for additional opportunities to help. |
We acknowledge that we meet and work on Treaty 1 territory, the traditional land of the Anishinaabe, Cree, and Dakota peoples and the homeland of the Metis Nation. We are grateful for their stewardship of this land and their hospitality which allows us to live, work and serve God the Creator here.
